Caesar Rodney’s Heather Rogers and her cannon were the difference as the Gold All-Stars topped the Blue 1-0. Ten minutes in she boomed a penalty corner drive off the post. She recalibrated at halftime and got the evening’s only goal on a PC feed from William Penn’s Stephanie Swain. Ms Rogers was selected the Gold Player of the Game. Joining her from the Blue All-Stars was Jen Perno of Caravel.
11-19-02 Delmar 1 Tower Hill captured their 13th State championship but it wasn’t easy. Jen Hastings’ goal at the fifteen-minute mark of the first half gave Delmar a 1-0 lead and had Tower trailing for the first time ever on the turf. But the lead was short-lived, as less than two minutes later, Lauren McCrery and Paige Schmidt combined on a penalty corner conversion. Tower was unfortunate not to grab the lead when Leigh Giacco’s slow roller eluded GK Kristin Wheatley but was disallowed and ruled to have come from outside the circle. The half ended 1-1. Leigh Giacco finally did give Tower Hill the lead with twelve minutes remaining on a high flick through a forest of defenders. After consultation, the umpires allowed the goal. Paige Schmidt finished the scoring, beating two defenders, on a nifty PC maneuver in the 57th minute. Tower Hill hoisted the trophy for the third year in a row. Tower Hill remains perfect on the turf, 8-0 in four Final Fours at Rullo. In the four years prior to Rullo, on grass, Tower Hill was 5-3 with three overtime defeats in the final. The 3-1 score is identical to Tower Hill’s win last year and to their first state championship win in 1973, in the tournament’s first year. In thirty years of State Finals, the winner has never scored more than three goals.
11-15-02 The 2002 DIAA Field Hockey Tournament finishes up Saturday but for many Delaware collegians the 2002 postseason is just beginning. The NCAA Division 1 and 3 Tournaments start this weekend. Both divisions feature 16 teams in a four-round playoff. In Division 1, nine teams roster fifteen Delaware players: Harvard Beth Sackovich Fr. Tower Hill
In Division 3, four teams roster eighteen players: McDaniel Kim Camponelli Jr. William Penn
11-14-02 Semifinal Scores Delmar 1 Junior centerback Ashley Campbell was woman of the match. In the eighth minute, her long hit set up Becca Gum for the game’s only goal and all night long her 16-yard hits consistently relieved Archmere offensive pressure. The game was strangely uneventful for long periods but the final minutes were frantic as Archmere fought to equalize. Archmere was awarded a series of penalty corners and free hits into the circle but couldn’t breach the Wildcat defense. The game ended when an Archmere PC drive went wide and Delmar was through to their first final.
Tower Hill 4 Tower’s dangerous penalty corner became deadly on the turf. Paige Schmidt struck twice within 20 seconds in the game’s first five minutes, the first cleanly into the cage, the second on a high deflection off the flier’s stick. PCs led to two more goals, as Paige collected her hat trick on a penalty stroke and Mauri Liberati tapped home a rebound into a yawning cage. Tower Hill and Friends had battled for 120 minutes this season to a 1-1 standoff, on the turf it was all Paige and Tower Hill. The much-anticipated drama lasted barely five minutes before all knew this would not be Friends’ night.
11-11-02 Final Four Facts Two very different match ups in the Semifinals. Tower Hill and Friends are neighbors, next-door neighbors as high schools go. Delmar and Archmere, at opposite ends of the state, couldn’t be further apart. Tower Hill and Friends meet twice a season and couldn’t be more familiar with one another. Delmar and Archmere have never met and, in all likelihood, know nothing of each other. Tower Hill and Friends expected, and were expected, to be here. Delmar, perhaps, they were a Preseason Top Ten pick in both polls. But Archmere no!The Independent Conference put two teams into the FF for the first time since 1992. The last time any conference had two FF teams was 1996 when two Henlopen Conference teams, Cape Henlopen and Milford, made it. In 1999, the exact same four seeds (not teams) advanced, Nos. 2,3,4 and 8. Eight and three moved on, with eight, in the form of Wilmington Christian, winning it all. Tower Hill is the only returnee from the 2001 FF. Delmar’s last trip was 1999, Archmere’s 1994 and Friends’ 1986. For the second time since 1992, Archmere advanced to the FF without having qualified for the tournament the prior year. Only Milford, in 1994 and 1996, can make a similar claim. 11-10-02 Quarterfinal Results The opening round saw four lower seeds advance, not so the second, as all the higher seeds prevailed. William Penn 0 William Penn started quickly and had Tower Hill off balance but a rapid counterattack forced a penalty corner, which Paige Schmidt dutifully converted. The Colonials visibly sagged. Two minutes before halftime, when Carolina Jolly tapped home a free hit into the circle, all knew there would be no upset today.
Caesar Rodney, fresh from their finest effort of the fall, had Archmere on the ropes and forced a series of penalty corners and ferocious free hits into the circle. But the Auks slipped the noose and went to locker room even on the scoreboard while trailing in possession, territory and chances. The Riders desperately needed a first-half reward for their efforts for in
the second half, two
Wilmington Christian 0 Friends came out flying, determined to avoid last year’s three-overtime, penalty-stroke-off thriller. Mary Ting put Friends on top at the eleven-minute mark when she stuffed home a rebound. Caeli Rubens, whose first goal of the season ended Indian River’s dreams, struck again just before halftime, extinguishing Wilmington Christian’s hopes. The Warriors, who had scored more than one goal in a game only four times all season, would never rally from 0-2 against the state’s most parsimonious defense. Lindsay Moyer’s added a late penalty stroke and Friends was on their way to Rullo and a much-anticipated rubber match with Tower Hill.
Sussex Central 1 Delmar’s Jen Hastings scored first, assisted by Sarah Webb, fifteen minutes in. SC’s GK Ashley Jones foiled the Wildcat’s bid to double their advantage when she stopped a penalty stroke. Then it was Sussex Central’s turn and the Knights drew even in the half’s dying seconds on Beth Moore’s goal. Becca Gum scored the game-winner on a penalty corner six minutes into the second half. The Wildcats weathered SC’s frantic finish and could pack their bags for Wednesday’s return to Rullo.
11-9-02 First Round Score Caesar Rodney 3 After two false starts, Caesar Rodney finally played their first-round game with St Mark’s and CR turned in a season’s best performance. Behind goals from a trio of sophomores, Casey Howard, Jamie Denman and Sonsecharae Everson, the hard-hitting Riders dominated the action and emerged convincing winners. St Mark’s 11-3-2 season was bookended by 1-0 and 3-0 losses to CR. The Riders make their third trip to Northern Delaware in three days when the visit Archmere today.
11-8-02 Quarterfinal Preview Two of four quarterfinal matches are regular season encores. The first round saw regular season losers turn the tables in two of four matches. William Penn at Tower Hill Penn and Tower are frequent Tournament foes and met in the state finals three times in the 1990s (Tower Hill 2, William Penn 1). In 2000, Tower Hill defeated Penn 4-0 in the quarterfinals on goals from Hillary and Paige Schmidt. Tower Hill, the tournament favorite as a three seed, was in control against Concord in the first round. William Penn’s 1-0 victory over Caravel was reminiscent of three regular season 1-0 defeats in all but the outcome. This may be the last, and is certainly the best, chance to knock off Tower Hill. They’re perfect at Rullo! Wilmington Christian at Friends The third consecutive year these teams have met in the Tournament. WCS ousted Friends in 2000, 2-0. Friends returned the favor in 2001, 2-1 on strokes. Friends won the annual regular season match 1-0, although WCS carried the play for large stretches and deserved a better fate. It will be low scoring. Friends has the better eleven but this is anyone’s game. Sussex Central at Delmar Both avenged regular season defeats in advancing, Sussex Central remarkably so in eliminating the No.1 seed. Delmar won 1-0 in the regular season, but that means little. A win will see Delmar’s seniors through to their second Final Four. Sussex Central’s last FF was in 1998. Caesar Rodney at Archmere Archmere advanced in the Tournament’s only laugher. CR, twice delayed, repeated their win over St Mark’s on the season’s opening weekend, in the most emphatic fashion. Archmere has risen from the ashes to win fourteen games this season. In 2000 a visit to Tower Hill ended CR’s season, the subsequent first-round Tournament loss was a mere formality. This year a bitter OT defeat at Tower Hill may prove a steppingstone to much greater things.
First Round Scores Caesar Rodney 3 St. Marks 0 Concord 1 Tower Hill grabbed a 3-0 lead on a pair from Alex Albright and one from Paige Schmidt. Jackie Allmond scored late for Concord.
Freshman Katie Love converted a penalty corner in the second minute of extra time for the game’s only goal. The win was the Warriors’ third 1-0 OT win of the season. The Bulldogs were blanked in the first round for the third straight year.
Nicki Tiberi scored on a penalty corner in the 59th minute to win it for William Penn.
Archmere led 1-0 at the intermission and scored three quick second-half goals to break the game open. Brenna Dolphin scored three, Kate Dougherty two and Jessica Zutz one for the Auks.

11-7-02 First Round Scores It doesn’t get any better than this! #16 Sussex Central 1 An unprecedented result. Kim Jones’ penalty stroke in the 58th
minute wins it for Sussex Central. SC GK Ashley Jones turned away ten shots. #15 Indian River 1 (OT) Indian River jumped on Friends early with a goal from Leighann Ambrose.
Friends drew level though Sarah Schmidt and the first thirty ended at 1-1,
though momentum had clearly swung. Friends dominated the second half with
one-sided advantages in territory, possession, shots and corners. Only IR’s GK
Lisa Morrissey’s heroics kept Friends at bay. In the extra time, Friends first
OT of the season, Friends was quicker to the ball. The end came on a goalmouth
scramble, when Caeli Rubens tapped home a loose ball. #9 Delmar 4 (Strokes) On a day of thrillers this was the most exciting match! Tracey Lloyd’s second half strike put Delmar two goals to the good at 3-1 but Lake Forest drew within one on a goal from Jessica Cortellino, just two minutes later and equalized in the 56th minute through Ashley Carey. Three ten-minute overtime periods saw plenty of action but no goals. Delmar won the stroke of 2-1 on goals by Jen Hastings and Ashley Campbell.
Both of Wednesday’s rematches saw the regular season outcomes reversed.

More Tournament Trivia Which tournament team never appeared on either Delaware Sports’ or the News Journal’s Top Ten lists this season? Which three teams made both lists but not the Tournament? How many different teams appeared on the DS list? The NJ list? Which team only appeared on one list? Answers tomorrow. 11-4-02 TOURNAMENT OBSERVATIONS Very unusual brackets this year. The top bracket is the Henlopen Conference bracket with six Henlopen teams and two Catholic Conference teams. The bottom bracket is the NCC bracket with both Independent Conferences teams, all three Blue Hen Conference teams, both non-conference teams and only one Henlopen Conference team. Fourteen of the sixteen tournament teams are returnees. Archmere and Indian River are the newcomers, Milford and Mt Pleasant the absentees. Four first-round games are rematches of regular season encounters. All four were close one-goal games. Over the past five years, 24 of 40 Delaware teams have appeared in the tournament. Only six have appeared all five years. Can you name them? Answer below. 1) Cape Henlopen (15-0-1), perennial #2 seed, made it to the top in 2002 but finishing there won’t be easy. Midfielder Amanda Warrington is the axis of the Viking attack. She gets plenty of help from sophomores Lisa Williams and Amanda Haxton. GK Nicole Rhoades is tournament-tested. Cape 2002 was as successful as ever but not as dominating. Seven of fifteen wins were by a single goal. Cape played very well against tournament teams going 7-0-1. Cape faces only Henlopen Conference opposition on the road to Rullo and should make their third straight Final Four appearance. 2) Friends (14-2) enjoyed their best season in years, winning the Independent Conference, but anything less than a state championship will be a disappointment. Friends is very strong down the middle with Lindsay Moyer and Sarah Schmidt, doing the heavy lifting, and Jessica Cowperthwait in goal. Jamie Jacobs on the left wing leads the team with nine goals. Friends was 5-2 against the tournament field and is bound for Rullo and a semi-final showdown with Tower Hill. 3) Tower Hill (14-2) Not bad for a rebuilding year! Paige Schmidt has found a supporting cast in Leigh Giacco, Alex Albright and Mauri Liberati; Lauren McCrery poses danger on every PC. The defense, badly exposed by Concord on Opening Day, is once again formidable. THS has shown they can win close with seven one-goal victories. Tower Hill went 6-1 against tournament teams. Not since 1990 has Tower Hill lost more than one regular season game. That year the Hillers won the state championship. History could repeat in 2002. 4) Archmere (13-2-1) returns to the tournament after a two-year absence. Veteran coaches, Sue Finnie and Pat Appleton, have orchestrated Archmere’s resurgence. The Auks win with offense and have scored three or more goals a state-best ten times. Jessica Zutz, Karla Senior, Kate Dougherty and Brenna Dolphin do most of the damage. Archmere is unbeaten in their last seven and went 3-2-1 against the field. 5) St Mark’s (12-2-2) is also enjoying a great rebuilding year. Early season offensive doldrums are just a distant memory. Julia Drewes in the midfield and Jena Boccetti and Kelly McCauley, on the flanks, lead the Spartan attack. Senior GK Meghan Barrett, in her first year of field hockey, has been a revelation. Unbeaten over their last eleven games, St Mark’s went 3-2-1 against the field. St Mark’s and Caesar Rodney met the opening weekend of the season, with CR prevailing 1-0. 6) Caravel (10-3-2) has become a tournament fixture since their 1997 debut. The offense is led by midfielders Meredith Brown and Jen Perno and forwards Lindsay Niggebrugge and Heather Richardson. GK Megan Manubay anchors the defense. Caravel has significantly upgraded their schedule in 2002 and has gone 3-3-2 against the field. Last year’s team with an identical 10-3-2 record was seeded 12th and made it to Rullo. This year’s edition could do as well but William Penn will not be easy. 7) Brandywine (12-2-1) repeated as Flight A champions and coasted through the Blue Hen Conference unbeaten. Striker Jamie Zubrow scores the goals with help from Amy Wisniewski and Kristen Burtch. Julie Constantine is a scrappy midfielder. Brandywine played the easiest schedule of the 16 tournament teams and went 1-2-1 against the tournament field. The Bulldogs are determined to erase bitter memories of last year’s first-round exit but Wilmington Christian will be a challenge. 8) Delmar’s (10-4) attacking line, Becca Gum, Jen Hastings, Tracey Lloyd and Danielle Twilley, has been there forever although their goal production is down in 2002. After a fast start, Delmar has played .500 hockey for the last several weeks. Delmar split their six games against the field 3-3 and just lost to Lake Forest a week ago, 1-0, in the Henlopen South decider. 9) Lake Forest (11-3-1) repeated as Henlopen South champions. The Spartans are still very young with a nucleus of sophomores and juniors. Danielle Vincent and Kate and Taryn Neeman score the goals. Lake went 3-2-1 against HC teams in the tournament. 10) Wilmington Christian’s (9-6-1) six losses were offset by their difficult schedule, by far the toughest of the sixteen. Wilmington Christian doesn’t score many goals and allows even fewer. Ten of sixteen games ended 1-0. WCS went 4-5 against the field. Always a dangerous tournament team, WCS won it all in 1999 as an eight seed. 11) William Penn (11-3-1) features a balanced attack and experienced defense and as much talent as any team in the state. Laura Dean leads the team in goals and can play anywhere. Sister Tricia, Annmarie Truitt and Stephanie Swain are swift, skilled attackers. Erin Marihugh and Kim Walker are solid in the midfield and on defense. Penn is riding a ten-game unbeaten streak but the quality of the opposition is suspect. Against tournament teams, Penn is a disappointing 1-3, with all three losses by 1-0 scores. 12) Caesar Rodney (9-4-3) is big and strong down the middle. CR gets most of their scoring punch from underclassmen, sophomores Casey Howard and Sonsecharae Everson, and freshmen Sydney Leone and Jaime Brittingham. CR faced three very tough out-of-conference foes – St Mark’s, Caravel and Tower Hill. The Riders played nine games against the tournament field and finished 3-5-1. 13) Smyrna (8-5-1) is back for the third consecutive year. Jami Goboa leads the offense with help from Mandi Wilson, Jenny Powell and Meghan Hannebutt. The Eagles went 2-4-1 against tournament teams, with notable wins over Henlopen South rivals Lake Forest and Delmar. 14) Concord (10-4-2), the Flight B champion, gets their goals from Ashley Rowell, Amy Dencker and Jackie Almond. The Raiders started 0-3 but are unbeaten in their last eight. In five games against the field, Concord went 0-4-1. Concord played their best game of the year against Tower Hill in September. 15) Indian River (10-6) returns after a year off. The Indians rely on Jackie Gray, Leighann Ambrose and Alli Ambose for their scoring. IR has played very well down the stretch, winning five straight. In games versus tournament teams, they have gone 2-5. 16) Sussex Central (9-6-1) went 3-5 against the field. Kimmy Bausch, Megan Gorman and Lindsey Moore are the scorers. SC was a sixteen seed in 2001 and drew Tower Hill. This year they’ll travel to Lewes for a rematch with Cape Henlopen. Back in September, Cape won 2-1 on a late goal.

11-3-02 Field Hockey's Huynh-Ba Named National Rookie of the Week
Oct. 30, 2002 CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Michigan State field hockey forward Michelle Huynh-Ba (Hockessin, Del.) was named the National Rookie of the Week by womensfieldhockey.com on Oct. 29 after guiding the Spartans to a perfect 2-0 week over nationally-ranked and Big Ten competition. MSU is currently 17-2 on the season and 4-1 in Big Ten play. The freshman tallied a pair of goals during the week, striking against both No. 13 Kent State and Big Ten foe Northwestern. Huynh-Ba scored the opening goal in the Spartans' 3-1 victory over Kent State on Oct. 23. She pocketed a pass from sophomore Judith van Haeringen (Hague, Netherlands) to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead just before halftime. Against Northwestern on Oct. 26, Huynh-Ba shot a perfect one-for-one, scoring on her only attempt of the day. Once again receiving a pass from van Haeringen, Huynh-Ba gave the Spartans an insurance goal as they went on to defeat the Wildcats, 2-0. In her initial season with the Green and White, Huynh-Ba has scored 11 goals, which places her first among first-year athletes in the Big Ten and fifth overall. The 24 points (11G, 2A) she has registered also places her first among first-year Big Ten players and eighth overall in the conference rankings. Currently riding a four-game goal streak, Huynh-Ba has notched a goal in five of the last six games. Huynh-Ba is the second Spartan to earn National Rookie of the Week honors this season. Goalkeeper Christina Kirkaldy (Afton, N.Y.) earned the award the first week of October. The Spartans will conclude the regular season Saturday, Nov. 2, when they travel to Columbus, Ohio, to face Ohio State. The game, which is scheduled to begin at noon, will be played at North Turf Field.
Two Delawareans reached the box scores while playing against each other in a huge College match when North Carolina defeated Maryland 3-2
Friday Scores Cape Henlopen 0 Caravel ends Cape’s perfect season in a rain-shortened affair. Friends 3 Friends captures the Independent Conference behind two goals from Jamie Jacobs and one from Mary Ting. A I DuPont 1 (OT) Stephanie Swain gave William Penn a first half lead. Kylee Trivits tied it for AI. AI is on the tournament bubble. William Penn, unbeaten in their last ten, is in. Mt Pleasant 3 (OT) Lynn Morley scored two for Mount, including the OT game-winner. Holly Van Auken collected both for Milford. After an 0-4 start, Mount has fought back to .500. Sanford 1 For only the second time all season, Wilmington Christian scored two second-half goals to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Jena Zapata and Katie Love struck twice within 90 seconds to erase Sanford’s one goal lead and return WCS to the tournament. Sanford, losers of three of the last four, could fall short. St Elizabeth 1 Kasey Milliski two and Lizzie Cone for UA, Jessica Speary for St E. Both Catholic Conference teams entered the final week with tournament ambitions. Ursuline’s were ended by consecutive losses to Charter and Padua. St E dropped their last three as scoring leader Ashley Smeltzer was kept off the board the final week. Seaford 2 Seaford’s tournament hopes took a hit as the Blue Jays fell behind 3-0 early in the second half. Candace Gaull led Laurel with two goals. Katie Ward and Summer Spicer each added one. Unek Brown and Rachel Thomas scored fort Seaford.

Blue Hen Conference scorers dominate the scoring list for a reason. They face many of the state’s softest defenses. The four weakest BHC teams, with a combined total of seven wins, have surrendered 31 of the 56 goals accumulated by conference’s leading scorers. Ten of Ashley Smeltzer’s 21 goals were also scored against these BHC teams.
Thursday Scores Delmar 0 Jessica Cortellino from Kasey Dobos as Lake wins back-to-back Henlopen South crowns. Sussex Central 1 CR came from behind in the slop, scoring two goals in twenty seconds, after Megan Gorman put the Knights one goal to the good with twenty minutes to play. Kristin Ward, Casey Howard and Jaimie Brittingham for the Riders. Smyrna 0 Jackie Gray scored twice and assisted on Leighann Ambrose’s goal as the Indians dominated for sixty minutes. Ursuline 0 (OT) GK Maggie Simeone turned away 24 shots and Alicia Nieves scored in OT as Padua won their first Catholic Conference game in two years. UA, after a promising start, has now dropped four straight and will not make the tournament. St Elizabeth 0 Archmere goes a surprising 13-2-1 behind goals from Brenna Dolphin, Jess Zutz and Kate Dougherty. St E’s "Road Warriors" are now 8-5-1 and even a win today at Ursuline may not be enough to qualify for the tournament. St Mark’s 1 Julia Drewes scored the only goal of the afternoon. WCS dropped their fifth 1-0 game of the season and host Sanford today. St Mark’s is now 11-2-2 with St Andrew’s today. Sanford 1 Jacquelyn Allmond and Ashley Rowell scored as Concord topped Sanford and won their first out-of-conference game.
Friends 0 Mauri Liberati scored the vital first goal in the mud as Tower Hill edged Friends 1-0. A win or tie today at Tatnall gives Friends their first Independent Conference crown since 1990.
Five of eight games played Thursday were 1-0 shut outs. Not surprising given the conditions. Most of the games were played only because it was the penultimate day of the season.

Heather Richardson’s goal regained the ascendancy for Caravel and her dish to Jen Perno sealed the game. Another strong showing from GK Megan Manubay. Ursuline 1 Friday Score St Elizabeth 2 St E’s first loss of the season.
With St Elizabeth and Delmar falling this week, only Cape Henlopen and Caravel remain unbeaten. They will face off this Friday at Caravel. The Catholic Conference is much improved this year and much more competitive as well. At approximately the halfway point here are the conference standings: 1) Archmere 3-0-0 St Mark’s and Archmere will play Thursday. St Mark’s remains the favorite to retain the conference crown.
10-5-02 Friday Scores Tower Hill 0 Jamie Jacobs and Lindsay Moyer combined for the game’s only goal. Friends GK Jessica Cowperthwait played very well, after ordinary performances against St Andrew’s and St Mark’s. Tower Hill’s second Independence Conference loss puts them two games behind Friends in the conference. To catch Friends and retain the conference title THS will need help. UA’s first OT win after two draws. Wilmington Christian’s first OT defeat after two victories. WCS had plenty of chances but the Warriors’ offensive woes continue. WCS has scored only six goals in eight games. Both sides abandoned a season-long policy of switching GKs at halftime. Charter 2 Charter wins the rematch of 2001’s Turf Bowl encounter. William Penn 7 Is the Penn offense finally on track? Four goals in the first five games, eleven goals in the last two games but the opposition is suspect. Cape Henlopen 6 Megan Fullmer netted two, as Cape stays perfect. Brandywine 1 (OT) Jamie Zubrow for Brandywine, Amy Dencker for Concord. The News Journal must have Concord season tickets!
Sensational Solo Scores Ursuline’s Lizzie Cone started it! There’s been a recent rash of highlight-film scores in Delaware field hockey. As described to me they are all half-the-length of the field sallies, over the harsh, unforgiving grounds of Delaware, through and around multiple defenders then past a well-beaten keeper. Ms Cone’s was the exclamation point in Ursuline’s 4-0 win over Padua last Friday. Archmere’s Jessica Zutz turned the tables on Ursuline Monday. On the restart after Archmere’s first goal, Ms Zutz went fifty to put Archmere up 2-0 and extinguish Ursuline’s comeback hopes. Wednesday it was Friends’ Sarah Schmidt’s turn against St Andrew’s. Her solo effort gave Friends a 2-1 lead and it was all Friends the rest of the afternoon.

The Riders scored four goals in a game for the second time this season. The first in a 4-1 win over Laurel.
Delmar 4 Delmar duplicated CR’s feat, also erasing a 1-0 halftime deficit with four goals in the second half from Tracy Lloyd and Danielle Twilley. Maggie Scarborough struck first for Dover. Seaford 2 Milford’s 1-0 lead couldn’t survive the second half either. Unek Brown and Samantha Fitzgerald scored for Seaford, Julie Wyatt for Milford. Indian River 4 Ali Ambrose twice, Leighann Ambrose and Kaitlin Harker. Sussex Tech 0 Kate Neeman twice, Ashley Sammons and Amanda Fisher as Lake improves to 5-1.

Sarah Schmidt lead the Friend’s revival with two goals – the first in the half’s final minute on a PC, the second on a nifty 50 yard fast break. Hanna Beswick added the third.
Friday Score Tatnall 0 Jackie Gray twice, Leighann and Ali Ambrose as the Indians avenge last year’s Turf Bowl loss.
10-1-02 Monday Scores Concord 0 Nancy who? GK Megan Manubay was sensational as the Raiders besieged the Caravel cage. Concord unleashed 24 shots and had a 25-6 advantage in corners. Goal hound Lindsay Niggebrugge bagged her third game winner of the season. Caravel is perfect at 6-0. Concord is a disappointing 4-4, with archrival Brandywine on deck. The Raiders’ four wins are against teams that, according to published scores, are a collective 3-13-2! Padua 1 Padua GK Maggie Simeone was perfect for 45+ minutes before Kelly McCauley broke the ice. Jena Boccetti added the insurance. In her last three games Ms Simeone has stopped 73 shots! St Elizabeth 8 Ashley Smeltzer scored four goals and added an assist, as St Elizabeth stays unbeaten at 5-0-1. Ms Smeltzer is averaging 2+ goals per game this season. St E is feasting on the Blue Hen Conference winning four of four by a combine score of 19-3. For Christiana Coach Chrissy Czajowski, it was never like this at William Penn. Ursuline 0 Scoreless at the turnaround, Karla Senior, Jess Zutz and Paige Tibbetts tallied as the Auks won going away. The rematch, at Ursuline, will be a very different game. Archmere is a very quiet 5-1 with three lopsided victories over Top Ten teams.
Sussex Central 1 (OT) Megan Gorman scored for SC; Lynn Morley got the equalizer in the final minute for Mount. A I DuPont 1 Leslie Baldino and Jill Levinson for Sanford. Whitney Turnbull for AI. Saturday Score Sanford 0
