Bits
and Pieces 28 3-19-01
In the next 10 days or
so we'll do a mini-spring preview here. It will be on the mini side
because I am getting swamped with Diamond State Games work. |
Speaking of the Diamond State Games, since that's all I have
been dealing with recently, they are well on their way and coming up
sooner than one might think. So if you are an athlete who is
contemplating competing, there are two things to do - 1) register, 2)
get in (or stay in) shape.
Registration forms can be printed off of the front page of the
Diamond State Games website. We will have booklets printed soon, but
the same information is in them that is on the site, so don't let
anything slow you down.
Online registration and payment is available for Flag Football,
Disc Golf, and Volleyball and the others should be ready soon through
Active.com. The Escape from Fort Delaware Triathlon is ready through
our association with Lin-Mark.com who also will do the electric timing
for that event.
While searching for Field Hockey clubs on the internet to
invite to the Diamond State Games, I pulled out Delaware's list of
High School All-Americans since 1985 from the US Field Hockey website.
Since this has only been awarded for 15 years, this following list is
rather impressive for our small state.
2000 Kerry Falgowski - St.
Marks
1998 Alison Stewart - Mt. Pleasant
Meredith Keller - Tower Hill
1997 Meredith Keller - Tower Hill
1995 Pembry Keller - A.I. duPont
1992 Danielle Chellew - William Penn
Jana Withrow - A.I. duPont
1991 Jana Withrow - A.I. duPont
1989 Heather Bryant - Concord
1988 Kathy Halley - A.I. duPont
Laura Knorr - William
Penn
Alison Stewart was the Delaware Sports female athlete of
the year in 1998 in a close race with Meredith Keller and a few
others.
Baseball America recently named St. Marks Junior
pitcher Mark Romanczuk as Delaware's top high school baseball
prospect.
We are combining the winter and spring All-Heart
teams as mentioned on the front page. It was necessary because of some
mounting pressure on my time. We will just have a bigger ceremony
sometime in May. There are some great candidates that we will give
awards to at that time. Please remember that if you are going to
nominate someone that there are some simple guidelines to adhere to in
order to have it be considered.
Hodgson's Mike Welch was
named the Delaware high school wrestler of the year by the DWA. Welch,
a two-time state champions for the Silver Eagles, finished his Hodgson
career with a state record 150 victories.
More later,
it's time to put together a show. Which, by the way, will be
celebrating its 200th original version in April. That's more than most
of your favorite shows of all time!
