Profile for Chip Hazewski Chips illustrious high school career was capped by two years as self-proclaimed All State Bookkeeper/Scorekeeper/Bullpen Coach with the St. Marks Spartans baseball team. His career ended before it started because he had a torn labrum with partial fraying of the rotator cuff in his junior year and in his senior year had another surgery to shrink the capsule in the front of the shoulder. Failed attempts at rehab ended Chips baseball career after 13 years, starting with the Elsmere Angels tee-ball team where he played the hot corner. At Widener University, Chip had a little more success. He was named to the all -conference team several times for cross-country and track. Also, he was added to the all-academic conference team for each respective season.

What are some of Chip’s proudest moments.
Who has inspired Chip? I draw great inspiration from God. I am not the church going type of late but I still like to set aside time to thank God for giving me the chance at another sport and not call it quits after baseball didn’t work. It’s important to be humbled every once in a while and realize that we are not what’s important. God deserves the praise for all of this; we just capitalize on the opportunity that He gives us. Also, I’d say my teammates inspire me a great deal. There are many different runners on the team with different abilities and each of them excels in different aspect of running. Everyone is out there everyday no matter the weather or what have you working toward a common goal that is stressed by our coach. What is it about Chip that everyone should know? I think everyone should now that I am very laid back person who doesn’t let very many things bother him. I am quite shy unless its at the expense of getting someone to laugh. I am very goal oriented and have a good idea of where I want my life to go after college is over.
Why did Chip go to Widener? What is he going to take with you from there?
(Besides towels with the cool logo) I went to Widener actually because a few of my friends went there. I wasn’t too ambitious with the application process out of high school so at the suggestion of a friend I applied. I actually didn’t see the school until orientation and it has worked out great fortunately. I am going to take from Widener a lifetime of loans to pay off and the towels. No, really I will take many things. I met many great friends, had the opportunity to learn about life not just running from my coach, Vince Touey. I was fortunate to be able to enjoy a school that I didn’t even know existed, all the while it was straight up I-95.
Is there anything else that people would find interesting about Chip? I am avid music listener and like to read. My favorite band is the Grateful Dead and favorite writer is Jack Kerouac. I have applied to Widener for grad school in the education dept. to teach high school social sciences. I will be back running next year because I am redshirting this indoor and out door season. |
