DSU drops home opener to FAMU
Dover, DE --- Kelsie Lordeus rushed for 121 yards and three touchdowns, and
Jacquay Nunnaly had seven receptions for 148 yards and two scores to lead
Florida A&M to a 49-21 victory in MEAC football Saturday. The victory was
Florida A&M's seventh in a row over Delaware State. Florida A&M scored
the opening touchdown on a six-yard run by quarterback Quinn Gray with 8:53 left
in the first quarter. Delaware State responded by scoring back-to-back
touchdowns to take a 14-7 lead. The Hornet scores came on touchdown passes from
Rahsaan Matthews to Darnerian McCants (16 yards) and Albert Horsey (45 yards).
Florida A&M tied the score when Lordeus scored on an eight-yard run to cap
an eight-play 60-yard drive with 2:05 left in the second quarter. After a DSU
possession resulted in three plays and a punt, Florida A&M regained the lead
21-14 on a 68-yard touchdown pass from Gray to Nunnally with 41 seconds left in
the second quarter. Delaware State's first second half possession resulted in a
blocked punt that rolled out of bounds at the Hornets' one-yard line. Lourdeus
plunged into the end zone on the next play to give the rattlers a 28-14 lead
with 13:05 left in the third quarter. Touchdown runs by Lourdeus and Gray, and a
five-yard TD pass to Nunnally gave the Rattlers a 49-14 lead with 13:05 left in
the third quarter. Florida A&M outscored Delaware State 28-0 in the third
quarter. Matthews and McCants connected on a 26-yard scoring pass with 13:06
left to play to round out the scoring. Florida A&M takes on Morgan State in
it's home opener next week, while DSU visits Elon College in North Carolina.
