NEWARK, DE -- The Delaware volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday, defeating Maine, 3-0, and losing to James Madison, 3-1, at the James Madison Invitational at Harrisonburg, VA.

The Blue Hens (2-1) started the day well, defeating America East foe Maine in a non-conference match by game scores of 15-12, 15-9, and 15-3. Senior Margaret Lapinski paced Delaware with six kills and 11 digs, and four aces. Jennifer Wanner added five kills and seven digs.

Maine, which fell to 0-2, was led by Leah Voss, who recorded 10 kills and four digs.

In its second match of the day, Delaware fell to James Madison, 9-15, 16-14, 11-15, 6-15. Seniors Lapinski and Wanner led the way once again. Lapinski recorded 14 kills and 12 digs, while Wanner had 16 kills and four blocks. Allison Hunter led the team with 38 assists.

Dainielle Heinbaugh recorded 21 kills, 10 digs, and six blocks for James Madison (3-0)

Delaware returns to action Sept. 8-9, as the Blue Hens travel to Williamsburg, VA, for the William & Mary IQ Invitational. The home opener for the Hens is Sept. 20 against Villanova.
