College Update 9-18-05 Dani Schneider is the national D2 leader in defensive saves for Catawba. Andrea Fleming’s fifth goal of the season was the OT game-winner for Lynchburg at Christopher Newport. Dawn McGaha collected an assist for the Hornets. Whitney Plaster scored a goal and added an assist in Gordon’s 5-2 win over Nichols. Sara Schmidt had a busy week at Villanova. She made a defensive save and scored the winning goal in the Wildcats’ 2-0 win over West Chester then tied the game and assisted on the gamer as the Cats upset UConn 4-3. Sam Coveleski recorded her first college point on a PC vs the Huskies. Laura Dean won the Terrier Award for her defensive efforts against Quinnipiac. According to Coach Starr: "Laura was a brick wall on the defensive end, possessing great intercepting skills. She created positive play with her passing from the backfield to helping our attacking sequences." Jane Sackovich was the headliner for Harvard, scoring twice in the Crimson’s 3-0 victory at Holy Cross. Jackie Ciconte’s seventh goal of the season helped Maryland welcome Boston College into the ACC, 3-0. Her eighth was the game’s only goal in a 1-0 victory at Harvard Sunday. Maren Ford’s first of the year was the game-winner for Princeton at Dartmouth. Noelle Kanaga picked up a goal and an assist in a two-win week for MIT. Brittany Elliott had a pair in the Gulls’ 8-3 win over Johns Hopkins. Carolina Jolly scored goals in consecutive romps for Williams, 7-1 at Union and 6-1 over Connecticut. Amanda Warrington scored twice, Casey Howard once with an assist as the Hens enjoyed Leopard for Sunday dinner. Michelle Huynh-Ba had the Spartan’s first in the win over Kent State. Former Blue Jay Shannon Taylor scored the golden goal in the game’s 93rd minute as Richmond upset William & Mary. Brittany Croll scored twice in Franklin & Marshall’s 4-1 win at Mary Washington. Mel Thompson’s early goal held up as McDaniel blanked Washington & Lee. Wesley went 2-1 on the week with Delawareans accounting for six of the Wolverines’ seven goals, Lindsey Williams with two, Susan Neylan, Dani Vincent, Kasey Dobos and Julene Gamble with one each. Jessica Cowperthwait stopped eight shots while recording her first shutout of the season, 2-0 over Syracuse. Meredith Brown collected her third assist on a PC in the Hoosiers’ 3-0 victory over Southwest Missouri State. Leigh Giacco celebrated her first for the Cavaliers in a 5-0 whitewashing of Monmouth. Summer Spicer’s three goals helped Swarthmore to the Seven Sister Final at Wellesley. Bonus Coverage The USA U-21s continue unbeaten at 3-0-1.
