Friends 2
Tatnall 0
The Quakers capture the first set on goals from Brooke Sheppard and Lauren
Schmittle. The rematch is scheduled for next Monday, November 1st and
it will be very difficult for Tatnall to turn it around. Friends (7-3-1) has won
four straight since their TB7 loss to Tower Hill.
Tower Hill 4
St Andrew’s 0
Tower led 1-0 at the intermission on the first of two from freshman Mary
Hobbs. Seniors Lizzie Lewis and Caroline Campbell added second-half goals. A
much better effort by St Andrew’s; last time the Cardinals surrendered six
goals in the first thirteen minutes.
Bonus Coverage
Emmaus (PA) ended Eastern’s (NJ) 153 game unbeaten run in emphatic fashion
yesterday, 4-1, avenging their 2-1 loss in New Jersey last season. Christina
Bortz converted a stroke; the first of her three goals, with 1:18 remaining in
the first half after officials conferred and ruled that a sprawled Eastern body
prevented a certain score in a goalmouth scrum. Just 53 seconds later Jess
Werley doubled the Hornet lead. That marked just the sixth time in The Streak
that Eastern surrendered two goals.
Lightning struck 1:39 into the second half as Ms Bortz scored her second of
the afternoon. The Vikings, who had never conceded three goals in a game during
The Streak, suddenly had yielded three in less than three minutes! Ms Bortz
added a third late before Meghan Bain ruined the shutout in the 58th
minute.
Eastern’s last loss was November 13, 1998 in the South Jersey Group IV
state title game to Shawnee, 2-1.
Emmaus is now 21-0 and with 193 goals scored is being hailed as the most
prolific scoring team ever in American high school field hockey.
