The Unknown Field Hockey Observer
Wilmington Christian 3 WCS, with a recently reconfigured line up, dominated on the Slip ‘n’ Slide with goals from Megan Grier, Katie Love and Camille Walker. Ms Love must have webbed feet; she was outstanding on the right flank, winning possession and advancing the ball all afternoon. The resurgent Warriors are proven closers. Last year they only lost one of their final eight games and in 2003 they finished by winning five of the last six. However, this year they started from too far back, 2-6-1 after their Turf Bowl debacle vs. William Penn, and the opposition is simply too strong, they finish with Cape, Sanford and St Mark’s. The Mounties haven’t put one in the Warriors cage since 2002 when they were on the short end of a 3-2 score. Mount, tournament certainties a few weeks ago, looked like tournament wannabes yesterday. After a string of three defeats, their games with Middletown and Concord have assumed considerable importance.
Tournament Speculations There is still a lot of hockey to be played but, if form holds, the tournament field, at least 14 of the 16, can be identified, if not seeded. Unless they stumble twice down the homestretch, Tower Hill will be the #1 seed with CR, Sanford and Delmar rounding out the top four. The second group of four will include St Mark’s, Cape and two BHC teams, Concord and Brandywine. The third foursome should have Sussex Tech and three BHC teams, William Penn, Mt Pleasant and Middletown. Padua and Charter, the likely BHA champions, will be in the fourth grouping. That leaves only two spots open for the six contending teams – Archmere, Dover, Friends, Indian River, Tatnall and Seaford. If I had to pick the lucky two, I would choose Friends and Indian River. 1) Tower Hill
