The Crimson got on the board early with a goal from Gretchen Fuller (Jr., Shaker Heights, Ohio) at 14:01. Jane Sackovich (Sr., Hockessin, Del.) fed Fuller from the stroke mark, and Fuller tapped the ball home for the 1-0 lead.
Whitney Waugh tied the game for the Big Green at 19:13 when she converted on a penalty corner straight shot with assists from Lindsay Gossage and Laura Kistler.
Lizzie Bidner provided the gamewinner with 1:18 left in the first half. Ashley Hines sent the ball into the circle, Bidner deflected it towards the goal. The ball escaped Crimson netminder Kelly Knoche (Fr., San Diego, Calif.) and found the back of the cage to provide the final 2-1 margin.
Both teams had their chances to added to the score in the second half, with Harvard holding a 5-3 shot advantage, but neither could convert.
Harvard held an 11-10 edge in shots on goal and each team had five penalty corners.
Knoche posted two saves and allowed two goals in the first half to take the
loss. Siobhan
Connolly (So., Walpole, Mass.) played the second half for the Crimson,
stopping both shots she faced. Lauren Balukjian earned the win for Dartmouth
with five saves in goal.
Today represented the final home contest for the six members of Harvard's senior class. The class of 2006 consists of Kristen Keating (Bryn Mawr, Pa.), Captain Jen McDavitt (Walpole, Mass.), Beth Sackovich (Hockessin, Del.) Jane Sackovich (Hockessin, Del.), Beverlie Ting (Vancouver, B.C.), and Laura Werner (Lancaster, Pa.). Together they have amassed a 40-27 overall record, an 18-8 Ivy mark that included the 2004 Ivy League title, and two NCAA tournament appearances.
The Crimson will face Columbia Nov. 5 in the final game of the regular season. That game will be played at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J. at 7:30 p.m.
