St. Andrews vs Friends
Girls Lacrosse - 4/7/00 |
|
by Marshal Manlove
editor In another
Delaware Sports #1 vs #2 matchup, the top ranked Quakers of Wilmington Friends lost to the
defending state champion Cardinals of St. Andrews.
St. Andrew's Heidi Pearce, a former player of the year, scored eight goals in
an awesome display of offensive scoring talent to lead her team back to the top of our
girls lacrosse rankings.
Pearce scored just 13 seconds into the game and had three goals before five
minutes had passed.
The Quakers Mary vanOgtrop scored a goal for Friends during that time period
to keep pace. She would add another later in the half, but was shut down by the aggressive
Cardinal defense, in which Pearce also played a large role.
Meredith Goeller scored three goals for St. Andrews to compliment Pearce. The
Cardinals took an 8-5 lead at half time. Five goals between both teams were scored when
the clock was stopped at 2:00 (the time is then kept on the field by the officials.)
Quaker goalie Sarah Fick was the victim of far too many point-blank-range
shots. She managed to record 10 saves in the game, but also allowed three empty-net shots
on goal, all of which were converted.
Liz Grant and Courtney Cordeiro also scored for St. Andrews who improve to
3-0.
For Friends, Kaitlin Ferrara scored a hat trick to lead their goal scorers.
Kate Lester, Mindy Kittle, and Becky Klein also scored for the 2-1 Quakers.
