Volleyball - Coordinator: Mr. Brian Fraticelli Diamond State Games IV
Black Equals Gold WILMINGTON, DE – The Brandywine Black volleyball club earned the A Group gold medal in the 2005 Diamond State Games on Saturday beating Rahway, NJ 25-14, 25-10 in the gold medal match. The Black featured some of Delaware’s best high school volleyball players including first-team all-state player Kate Chiquoine from AI duPont High School and Archmere setter Kelly Wohlhagen. The Rahway team returned to the Diamond State Games this year after having a rough time in last year’s competition. They found this year's competition tough as well splitting with Brandywine Black in pool play and were swept by the Spartans early in the event. Rahway avenged the loss to the Spartans in two 2-point games, one in extra play, and then Black did their business the way they thought they should in the final. In the B Group it was the Ravens from St. Thomas More in Magnolia taking the gold. The Ravens basic high school team waged a tough battle with the First State Tiggers, a club team from New Castle County, in an earlier match and once again in the final. Domenica Lonchar and Christina Lessard were key to St. Thomas More’s victory. The Spartans from Newark won the A Group bronze and Erin L. Rautio, DMD from Wilmington sponsored the bronze medallist from the Charter School of Wilmington in the B Group.
A Group B Group Playoff round scores Brandywine 25-25, Spartans 22-20 Semifinal Round B Group
