Diamond State Games Submission Grappling Rules and Regulations

1. Diamond State Games Scoring System: Clean takedown to Side Mount - 3 points; Takedown to Guard or Half Guard – 2 points, Sweep with Legs- 2 points; Pass opponents guard - 3 points; Mounted position - 4 points; Back Mount with Hooks in - 4 points - NOTE: To gain points for position, the competitor must show clear control for 3 seconds. Points will be accumulated from the start of the match until the end of the match.

2. Advantages: (submission attempts that posed a real threat to the other fighter, near takedowns, near sweep, near passes etc.). Any player with top position who makes no attempt to advance will be viewed as inferior to player in the guard position who is making attempts at advancing. Advantages will only be used in the case of a tie with points.

3. No Stalling – The referee will issue warnings for the 1st offense of stalling (i.e. backing out of the guard without engaging, butt scooting, fleeing the ring to avoid takedown/submission attempts). The 2nd offense will result in a 2 Point deduction. A 3rd offense will result in a disqualification.

4. Heel Hooks, Twisting Leg Locks, and Neck Cranks are ILLEGAL in Children, Novice, Beginner, Intermediate, Executive, Masters, and all non-Superfight Women’s Divisions. All submissions, including heel hooks are allowed in Advanced, Pro, and Absolute divisions.

5. No strikes, biting, eye gouging (includes chin to eye), head butting, small joint manipulation (finger or toe locks), hair pulling, or ear pulling.

6. No slamming at all. *NOTE - Takedowns are not considered slamming, unless intent to injure is determined by the referee. This is to avoid slamming to escape the guard and various submissions from the guard.

7. We also will be enforcing fully, the zero tolerance rule of disrespecting, threatening with physical violence, or verbally abusing referees (or promoters) for the entirety of the event.  If any coach, parent, or competitor threatens or abuses the referee in any shape or form, they will be escorted out of the building.
