The Titans are Golden

WILMINGTON, DE -  The Titans from Newark won the gold medal in the men's
softball division at Diamond State Games IV.

Danny Black helped preserve a one-run lead for the Titans in the gold medal
game against J & C from Newark as he gunned down a potential tying run at
the plate with a 250-foot throw from left field.

The Titans captured the title the hard way. They needed to beat J&C two
straight games to win, 16-8 and 12-11.

J&C won their first games in the medal round beating JC/Supreme from
Middletown 9-8 and the Titans 16-3.

JC/Supreme defeated the Titans 18-17 in their first meeting as Kevin Rogers
smacked a 3-run walk-off homer to deep left field.

The Titans avenged that loss with a 13-8 victory setting up the gold medal
matchup with J & C.

The Titans would not name a team MVP claiming that "no one earned that
today," but rather stated that everyone on the team "stepped up".

Hitting stars of the medal round included Verdell Blackston from JC/Supreme
who was 11-13 with one HR, Pete Mann from J&C who 9-13, Tracy Reed from J&C
who was 8-10 and Darren Barber also from J&C who hit two homeruns in the
medal round.
